The quote below is taken from Adrian Mole's autobiography. It tells the story of how Adrian's father's marriage broke down because his wife was unable to cope with the pressures of life in the 1970s. The quote comes from a point in the book when Adrian's father is having an argument with his ex-wife. The argument takes place in front of Adrian, who is about to travel off to Cambridge University to study law. Adrian's father expresses his frustration with other people breaking up their family by saying "I married my wife 30 years ago, she was unhappily married for 30 years, why should everybody else get away?"
